“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son
is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name
shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace.”
(Isaiah 9:6)
The chorus follows the bass solo with the
glorious news of the coming birth. Though fulfillment was still hundreds of
years away, the promise and the subsequent hope was, for an exiled people, the
“solid footing,’ Bullard cited in yesterday’s
devotion.
Nineteenth century hymnist, Edward Mote, speaks of this
solid footing as he writes in the chorus of his great hymn, “The Solid Rock,”
“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All
other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking
sand.” Take courage dear friends and step lively
into this good day!

of faith through Jesus Christ. Amen.
