Advent Devotional, December 1

Psalm 4

 

“I will both lie down and sleep in peace;
    for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.”

                                                                                   (Psalm 4:8)

 

Peace is a persistent theme during Advent.  Indeed, the second candle of the Advent wreath is the candle of peace.  The Psalmist, amidst the complaints of others as well as his own, declares that he will find peaceful rest as he trusts in God. 

 

Rest and peace can be difficult to come by in the busyness of December.  Perhaps, like the Psalmist, the key in these, or any challenging days, is making the intentional choice to trust one’s self into God’s hands. Sounds like a great way to begin Advent.

 

Prayer: God of peace, may I find rest in you this day. Amen.
