“Rejoice in the Lord always;
again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is
near.”
(Philippians 4:4-5)
Presence makes a difference. Clay Nettles recently spoke of the
significance of knowing the presence of caring friends and family in the
immediate aftermath of his serious bike accident. Just knowing someone is there in the midst of
brokenness means everything.
Paul reminds the Philippian Christians that God is
near. That presence empowers joy and
gentleness, among other things. In this
season of Lent, remember that God is near.
Prayer: Ever-present One, may the joy of knowing You
empower our Lenten steps.
Amen.
